Department Overview: The Department of Clinical Biochemistry was established with the founding of the College of Medicine at Northern Border University, in line with its leading role in basic medical sciences. The department provides students with a solid scientific foundation in biochemistry and molecular biology, enabling them to understand metabolic disorders and cellular dysfunctions within a clinical context. This approach facilitates a smooth transition to the clinical years.

Vision: The Department of Clinical Biochemistry aspires to deliver high quality programs in biochemistry and molecular biology that prepare competent physicians with strong scientific knowledge and laboratory expertise, capable of keeping pace with continuous advances in medical sciences and contributing effectively to scientific research across medical fields.

Mission: To provide high quality medical education in clinical biochemistry characterized by modernity, development, quality, and innovation in scientific research, while actively contributing to addressing environmental and community-related issues.

Objectives:

  • Utilize modern technologies in delivering biochemistry courses.

  • Continuously develop curricula to prepare graduates capable of keeping pace with contemporary developments.
  • Support and encourage innovation in biochemistry-related scientific research.
  • Develop students’ practical skills while adhering to quality standards.
  • Uphold ethical principles in teaching and scientific research.
  • Promote teamwork and instill the value of continuous medical education.

Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory:

The Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory is one of the most important laboratories in the College. It is equipped with advanced instruments, tools, and technologies, and is supported by comprehensive safety and protection measures. The laboratory conducts a wide range of practical tests that help students understand key biochemical reactions occurring within human cells and link disturbances in these reactions to various diseases.
Laboratory training strengthens the integration between theoretical and practical learning, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, which enhances comprehension and retention.
Students are trained in the proper use of laboratory instruments and equipment and are qualified to perform essential laboratory tests, such as blood glucose measurement, lipid profile analysis, total protein estimation, liver and kidney function tests, and selecting appropriate diagnostic tests based on patient symptoms. Students also develop the ability to interpret laboratory results to reach accurate diagnoses, monitor disease progression, and understand treatment approaches.
In addition, students are provided with the essential knowledge and experience in the fundamentals of biochemical research, contributing to the advancement of the educational and research missions of the College and the University.
